We have just
bought a wonderful house near Tomar and cannot speak
too highly of the assistance provided by the team at
Chavetejo Estate Agents.
Nothing was ever too
much trouble and they helped us with every aspect of the
purchase from negotiating with the vendor to arranging
for an excellent lawyer to handle all the legal aspects
and with setting up a bank account. They also provided
and continue to provide a wonderful after sales service
which includes helping with utility services and
pointing us in the right direction for all the things we
need to know when we arrive to live permanently in this
wonderful part of Portugal.
We cannot recommend
Chavetejo Estate Agents highly enough.

to get involved with Derek, Nicky and Claudia from
Chavetejo. Their knowledge, expertise and dedication
to both the house hunters and the local area is
second to none. We felt, at no time, under any
pressure or obligation to rush any of the

without bias, with totally honest and experienced

got a few right at the quiz night we went to.
All three of them
helped us through the whole buying process,
including taking us to the Finances Office to

Having scrolled and searched through many
websites advertising property for sale in
Portugal, we read about 'Chavetejo' in Portugal
magazine, and gave it a go.
We were impressed by the
layout and wealth of information. Any questions
we had regarding property information were
answered promptly, with detailed information
supplied by Nicky.
We had three visits to
Portugal, to view property via Chavetejo. Derek
and Claudia responded to our 'brief', showing us
many houses for sale. Finally, we found the
house that answered most of our needs. Once back
in UK, Nicky helped answer any queries and
Claudia liaised with our lawyer and between
them, the whole transaction was completed
within a few weeks!
Fantastic service , which is
both efficient and friendly. Even now, Nicky
is our first port of call for any information we
may need. So, well done, Chavetejo and
long may you prosper.

Since deciding to
retire early and move to central Portugal eighteen
months ago my wife Jane and I had been in constant
contact with Nicky and Derek at Chavetejo who have
always replied to our emails promptly and answered
all our numerous questions with honesty and
Before arrival we drew up a shortlist of properties
to view around the Tomar area and as soon as we
arrived in Tomar we called in to
the Chavetejo office
and met the team, Nicky/Derek and Claudia who was
later to become invaluable when going through the
process of buying our house.
We were taken to view several properties in the
region but unfortunately there didn't seem to be any
that caught our eye, but Nicky and the team told us
to be patient and not to buy something that wasn't
right for us..........No pressure to buy was ever
put on us by Chavetejo, so we waited.
We eventually found "our" house some distance away
from Tomar and although this distance meant we could
no longer deal directly with the Tomar team they
still showed all the enthusiasm and willingness to
work for us in an effort to make the sale as smooth
Chavetejo arranged for a Portuguese lady who lived
locally to see us through the daunting task of
getting connected to the utilities and visiting the
various departments where our lack of the Portuguese
language would have proved a big obstacle. On our
behalf this lady has also arranged a builder and
other tradesmen for us and she has now become a firm
friend of ours.
And so to the actual signing at the Notary, where
Claudia as mentioned before became invaluable as she
calmly explained the proceedings and led us through
the procedure until we came out the other end as
proud owners of our bit of Portugal.
Many thanks to all at Chavetejo for looking after

However, we were fortunate enough to find ourselves

Jenny Neville, formerly of Ireland
On our first visit
to Central Portugal we fell in love with the
place and decided to look at rentals,
consequently we met Nicky and Derek of
Chavetejo. They advised us very strongly to
think hard before renting a property isolated in
the countryside as there would be no easy access
to large towns or the city of Tomar .Also there
would be fewer Expats to become friends with or
ask for support or assistance. Unfortunately we
did not listen to their advice and went ahead
We found that we were isolated
and there was no easy access to supermarkets,
towns etc as the bus service to outlying
villages seems to have a mind of its own and in
some cases by passes the villages making a car
Also when we
encountered problems with the rental property
there was very little help locally and we relied
heavily on Chavetejo even though the
responsibility for the rental was not theirs.
Consequently we found this experience was
putting us off moving to Portugal on a more
Fortunately Nicky and Derek
became aware of this and arranged a short rental
for us closer to Tomar. After 12 months renting
in isolation we had a fantastic time in the new
rental and we would like to thank Nicky and
Derek for sorting this out for us and we are
again looking to buy a property in Portugal but
not in the rural parts. These are the places to
have a day out to not to live.
Our advice to anybody new to
renting or buying in Portugal is listen to Nicky
and Derek, they know what they are talking
about. Thank you once again.

Our return home to Spain, the following day,

by the team at Chavetejo.
The recommendation and introduction to both the

proved to be very efficient.
Although the purchase is now complete, the team at
Chavetejo still demonstrate their professionalism by
being at hand to help us.
We would recommend their services.

Having split personalities - working in Kuwait and
home and family in the United Kingdom we of course
had to make things even more complicated by buying a

Chavetejo did a great job in making the purchase a

from one country to another trying to view, make
appointments with lawyers, builders and the like.
strengths of Chavetejo in our opinion are the

Our decision to contact Chavetejo and view some
properties was a positive move. We found all the
staff friendly and helpful, and their
professionalism made our foray into this unknown
world less daunting, no doubt due to the fact that
the core team is both Portuguese and British.
We already had a list of properties we wanted to
see, and as well as these we were also shown similar

pressured into making a decision - instead we were

Chavetejo took us through all of the procedures and
paperwork, from opening a bank account, obtaining a

We would like to thank all the team at Chavetejo for
their assistance throughout and would certainly
recommend them if you are thinking of purchasing a
property in Central Portugal.
Elaine and Antony Vowles,
Like most people I researched properties in Portugal
on the internet, I found many sites but over the
months leading up to my retirement I ended up just
checking the Chavetejo site. Apart from lots of
useful information and a good layout with good
quality photographs they were the only ones who took
the time to reply to my email enquiries.
When my retirement day finally arrived I grabbed my
cash, loaded the car and headed for Portugal. I had
a property in mind when I arrived, was happy to find
it was still available.
Chavetejo guided me through the purchase, opening a
bank account and setting up the utilities. Prior to
purchase they found me temporary accommodation and
after purchase they continued to be as helpful,
polite, and friendly and are never too busy to
provide useful information.
thought moving to Portugal was going to be difficult.
After I arrived and with Chavetejo holding my hand I
found it was easy. My only worry now is my children will
find me and spoil my peace and quiet.
you’re thinking of moving to Portugal my advice is look
at Chavetejo web site. If they don't have what you’re
looking for contact them with your requirements you will
not be disappointed with the staff or the service.

Customer. Just a short message to say, that on
arriving in Tomar which I instantly took a great
liking to, looking for a house in Portugal, I
spotted Chavetejo while driving around. They showed
me several properties in and around the area.
The help I had
from Nicky and the guys at Chavetejo was really
good, they were really great in their efforts to
help me find a property, which I did. The help and
after service has also been really good and they are
always willing to help with additional information
if you need it, for example being a new person in
the area, knowing, which phone company to use or
try, where can you buy this, where is that, where to
find goods etc etc.
Thanks again guys

In our opinion
Chavetejo is Portugal's Number one estate agents.
Having just sold our property through Chavetejo we
have to say we cannot fault their service. They gave
us a complete and honest account of our property to
potential buyers and good feed back to us.
We would recommend them
to both sellers and buyers as they provide an
excellent friendly service and are an estate agent
you can trust.

2007 I did a lot of internet research on properties

Therefore when I decided to settle in the Tomar area
and look for a home it made sense to contact
Chavetejo and I am very glad I did. From the first email the
service was professional, un-pressurised, courteous and
Nicky, Claudia and Derek took the time to

In April 2008 I found my dream home through Chavetejo

friendly place to drop in for a chat.
My sincere thanks to you all and my very best wishes for
your future success.

The staff at
Chavetejo are not only helpful, but patient. They

We've lived in Portugal for
over seven years and when we decided to sell our
property in Avelar, we contacted Chavetejo as we had
heard good things about them as an estate agency.
Although the Portuguese
property market moves slower than that of the United
Kingdom, the team at Chavetejo effected a quick and

Paul and Bridgette Tonks,
From our first meeting with
staff at Chavetejo, we have found them exceptionally
professional in their role as estate agents, but more
than this; they have been friendly and helpful in all
aspects of moving to Portugal and have considerably
eased our integration into life in the Ribatejo region.
All members of staff are
supportive with a wide range of skills, helping to
alleviate all complex bureaucratic issues with buying
property in a new country.
John and Sue Trueman,
My experience with
Chavetejo has been better than I could ever have hoped
For us the decision to buy a holiday home abroad
was the easy bit, actually getting out there and doing
it was quite daunting and scary. Had we known there was
people out there like the staff of Chavetejo we would
probably have tried to do it a long time ago.
When we decided on the
centre of Portugal it quickly became obvious from the
quality of the web sites GekkoPortugal and Chavetejo and
the initial contacts by email that we would be in good
arrival in Tomar we were not disappointed, they worked
very hard to find the right property for us and to show
us as many options as possible. Luckily on our first
visit we found the ideal house and it was then that they
really got to work.
They basically took us in hand and led us through all of
the processes involved in getting the deal done, from
opening a bank account and getting a fiscal number to
setting up the meetings with the sellers, notary etc. I
don't think I have met a more dedicated and helpful
bunch of people, their professionalism and knowledge of
the area and the business is invaluable and their help
is very much appreciated.
They are still helping now, they put us in contact with
a local builder who is now working on our property and
they helped with the electricity and water companies. I
cannot praise them enough for all they did to help us
make our dream of a holiday home happen. If you are
thinking about central Portugal then you are lucky, you
can look forward to a friendly, speedy, and pleasurable
experience with Chavetejo. Thanks again guys and see you
